In May this year, Turkey's scrap import volume decreased by 21.6 percent year on year to 1.65 million metric tons and was down 13.15 percent compared to April, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $604.86 million, up 2.44 percent year on year and falling by 11.6 percent month on month.
In the first five months of the current year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 8.93 million mt, up 11.2 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 42.66 percent to $3.11 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey imported 1,678,724 mt of scrap from the US, up 23.57 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 1,288,960 mt in the given period, up 15.33 percent year on year.
