Turkey’s scrap imports up 10.8 percent in January-July

In July this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 89.8 percent year on year to 2.02 million metric tons and was up 55.6 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $560 million, doubling year on year and up 55 percent compared to June.

In the first seven months of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume amounted to 11.35 million mt, rising by 10.8 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 37.5 percent to $3.1 billion, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 1,893,068 mt of scrap from the US, down 4.37 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 1,609,566 mt in the given period, up 6.99 percent year on year.
