In July this year, Turkey's steel scrap import volume decreased by 0.6 percent month on month to 1.75 million metric tons, up 1.03 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of this import volume totaled $653.16 million, down 0.4 percent month on month and increasing by 3.9 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-July period of this year Turkey's steel scrap import volume increased by 3.9 percent to 11.46 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $4.34 billion, up 1.52 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first seven months, Turkey imported 2.35 million mt of steel scrap from the US, down 25.9 percent year on year, though the US remained first among Turkey's steel scrap import sources in the given period, ahead of Russia which supplied 1.73 million mt of steel scrap to Turkey, up 65.3 percent year on year. In July alone, Turkey's steel scrap imports from the US decreased by 11.22 percent year on year to 425,754 mt.
