In May this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 9.5 percent year on year to 1.81 million metric tons and was down 10.1 percent compared to April, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), The value of these imports totaled $588.39 million, down 2.7 percent year on year and decreasing by 10.7 percent month on month.
In the January-May period, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 7.72 million mt, down 13.6 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 20.7 percent to $2.47 billion, both year on year,
In the given period, Turkey imported 1,361,073 mt of scrap from the US, down 18.92 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the Netherlands which supplied 1,121,128 mt in the given period, up 13.81percent year on year,
