Turkey's scrap imports down 13.55 percent in Jan-Nov

In November last year, Turkey's steel scrap import volume decreased by 24.43 percent year on year to 1.31 million metric tons, down 29.51 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of this import volume totaled $489.92 million, down 25.74 percent year on year and decreasing by 30.34 percent compared to October.


 
On the other hand, in the January-November period last year Turkey's steel scrap import volume decreased by 13.55 percent to 17.83 million mt, valued at $6.79 billion, down 22.17 percent, both year on year.
 
In November, Turkey imported 281,490 mt of scrap steel from the US, down 48.32 percent year on year and down 45.67 percent month on month. The US remained first among Turkey's major steel scrap import sources with 4.86 million mt in the first 11 months of 2013, down 17.73 percent year on year, ahead of the UK and Russia.
