Turkey’s scrap import volume rises in January-April

In the January-April period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 7.2 percent to 5.93 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $1.59 billion with a 47 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
 
In the January-April period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 21.1 percent to 3.95 million mt, its scrap imports from the US fell by 13.6 percent to 979,000 mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 541,000 mt, down 40 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 67 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 16.5 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 9.1 percent.
