Turkey’s scrap import volume rises by 23 percent in January-April

In the January-April period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 23 percent to 7.3 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $2.5 billion with a 58 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the January-April period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by ten percent to 4.3 million mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 48 percent to 1.4 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 865,000 mt, up 60 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 60 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 20 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 12 percent.
