Turkey’s scrap import volume increases in January-May

In the January-May period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 11.1 percent to 8.03 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $2.18 billion with a 48.3 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the January-May period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 25 percent to 5.28 million mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 1.7 percent to 1.36 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 725,000 mt, down 48 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 66 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 17 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 9.0 percent.
