In March this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 102,891 mt, down 35 percent year on year and decreasing by 20.2 percent compared to February, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month decreased by 37.5 percent year on year to $37.4 million, down by 19.2 percent compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, in the first three months of this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 325,191 metric tons, down 23.4 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $119 million, decreasing by 25.7 percent compared to the same period of 2018.
In the first quarter of this year, Turkey imported 258,004 metric tons of pig iron from Russia, up 3.57 percent year on year. Russia ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Ukraine which supplied 49,736 mt, down 54 percent year on year.
