According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Exporters' Association (TIM), in February this year Turkey's iron and steel product exports totaled $808.91 million in value, decreasing by 18.95 percent year on year and up 18.5 percent over the previous month, while exports of articles of iron and steel rose by 21 percent compared to January 2009 and were up 11.42 percent month on month, amounting to a value of $117.19 million.
Meanwhile, Turkey's iron and steel product exports in the first two months of this year totaled $1.49 billion, while exports of articles of iron and steel amounted to $222.37 million, down 24.21 percent and up 14.2 percent year on year respectively.
Commenting on the Turkey's overall export performance in February, TIM stated that exports of industrial sectors improved significantly in February with a year-on-year growth rate of 20.5 percent. Leading exporting sectors, which have recovered quickly from the adverse effects of the global downturn, contributed substantially to this increase. On year-on-year basis, Turkey's largest exporting sector, the automotive industry, increased its exports by 62 percent in December, by 43 percent in January and by 38 percent in February.
