In May this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 922,264 mt, up 22.66 percent month on month and falling by 4.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 44.17 percent to $100.2 million compared to the previous month and was up 56.7 percent year on year.
In the first five months of the current year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 4.86 million mt, up 8.11 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 64.14 percent to $460.8 million, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 1,966,372 mt, down 16.07 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 819,388 mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 571,065 mt.
