In November last year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.18 million mt, up 52.6 percent month on month and rising by 53.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 65.3 percent to $85.8 million compared to the previous month and was up 66.8 percent year on year.
In the first 11 months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 4.4 percent to 9.67 million mt, while revenues from these imports decreased by 14.6 percent to $640 million, both year on year.
In the January-November period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 4.79 million mt, up 5.87 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 1.62 million mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 1.49 million mt.
