In August this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 583,091 mt, up 38.4 percent month on month and decreasing by 29.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports decreased by 34.2 percent to $40.5 million compared to the previous month and was down 32.4 percent year on year.
In the first eight months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 4.3 percent to 6.85 million mt, while revenues from these imports decreased by 20 percent to $444 million, both year on year.
In the January-August period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 3.47 million mt, up 10.13 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 1.25 million mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 996,623 mt.
