In May this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 992,277 mt, increasing by 75.7 percent compared to Arpil and down 5.4 percent as compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 44.5 percent to $138.6 million year on year, up 236.2 percent as compared to April. In April this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports totaled 564,630 mt, while the value of these imports was $41.22 million.
Meanwhile, in the January-May period of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 4.36 million metric tons, up 2.7 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $420.64 million, increasing by 6.7 percent compared to same period of 2018.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 2.34 million mt, up 38.67 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 715,032 mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Canada in the given period amounted to 338,206 mt.
