In September this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 775,065 mt, decreasing by 16.3 percent compared to August and up 32.8 percent as compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 118.5 percent to $102.11 million year on year, down 6.3 percent as compared to August. In August this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports totaled 925,808 mt, while the value of these imports was $109 million.
Meanwhile, in the January-September period of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 7.93 million metric tons, up 2.4 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $856.37 million, increasing by 21 percent compared to the same period of 2018.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 4.24 million mt, up 26.3 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 1.2 million mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Canada in the given period amounted to 669,473 mt.
