In March this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.18 million mt, up 154.7 percent month on month and rising by 12.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 37.3 percent to $118.5 million compared to the previous month and was up 81.9 percent year on year.
In the first quarter of the current year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 3.18 million mt, up 15.7 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 72.3 percent to $291 million, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 1,189,195 mt, down 19.57 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 489,828 mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from South Africa in the given period amounted to 402,062 mt.
