In June this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.12 million mt, increasing by 13.4 percent compared to May and up 83.3 percent as compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 147.1 percent to $128 million year on year, up 17.9 percent as compared to May. In May this year, Turkey’s iron ore imports were at 992,279 mt, while the value of these imports was $108.6 million.
Meanwhile, in the January-June period of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 5.49 million metric tons, up 12.9 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $548.67 million, increasing by 23 percent compared to same period of 2018.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 2.93 million mt, up 44.9 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 866,416 mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Canada in the given period amounted to 505,213 mt.
