In August this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 798,289 mt, decreasing by 32.9 percent compared to July and down 13.8 percent as compared to the same month of 2019, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports increased by 18.5 percent to $88.83 million year on year, down 24.9 percent as compared to July.
Meanwhile, in the January-August period of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports amounted to 6.55 million metric tons, down 8.4 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $645.06 million, decreasing by 14.5 percent compared to same period of 2019.
In the given period, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil stood at 3.55 million mt, down 5.25 percent year on year. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 1.48 million mt, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 826,513 mt.
