According to the report released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), in the January-February period of the current year Turkey's flat steel import volume increased by 23.5 percent to 1.28 million metric tons, while these imports were valued at $924 million, up 9.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given period, Turkey's hot rolled sheet imports increased by 7.1 percent to 609,000 mt, coated sheet imports amounted to 165,000 mt, up 10.9 percent, alloyed sheet imports reached 296,000 mt on the back of a strong increase of 243.1 percent, while cold rolled sheet imports totaled 108,000 mt, down 15.3 percent, all year on year.
In the first two months of 2015, Turkey's long steel import volume declined by 12.7 percent to 208,000 mt, while these imports were valued at $174 million, down 23.5 percent, both year-on-year basis. In the January-February period, Turkey's wire rod imports decreased by 34.8 percent to 58,000 mt, rebar imports amounted to 6,000 mt, down 62.9 percent, profile imports came to 51,000 mt, down 16.1 percent, while alloyed wire rod imports totaled 37,000 mt, up 203,5 percent, all year on year.
