Crude steel production in Turkey declined by 8.1 percent year on year in November this year to 2.88 million mt as business conditions have been challenging, according to the statement, released by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD). In particular, output of local EAF-based mills dropped by 11 percent, which was partially compensated by a 1.7 percent increase on the blast furnace side.
In the January-November period this year, Turkey’s crude steel production totaled 30.9 million mt, versus 34.4 million mt in the same period last year. Scrap-based mills produced 20.9 million mt of steel, down 12.6 percent, while integrated facilities saw a decrease of 5.3 percent in production to 10 million mt, year on year, the TCUD reported.
Turkey produced 19.1 million mt of square billet in the first 11 months of the year, indicating a 16.7 percent drop year on year. In the meantime, slab production inched up by 2.1 percent to 11.8 million mt owing to the somewhat healthier situation in the flats steel segment, SteelOrbis understands.
