In April this year, Turkey's coking coal imports totaled 336,391 mt, down 39.31 percent year on year and decreasing by 5.56 percent on month-on-month basis, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). Meanwhile, the value of these imports was $46.33 million, down 47.79 percent year on year and decreasing by 13.11 percent month on month.
In the first four months of this year, Turkey's coking coal imports decreased by 0.71 percent to 1.62 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $240.25 million, down 8.91 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In April this year, the US and Russia were the only sources of coking coal imports for Turkey, supplying 296,201 metric tons, down 25.02 percent year on year, and 40,190 metric tons, respectively. Meanwhile, in the four months of this year Turkey's coking coal imports from the US increased by 16.38 percent year on year to 1.33 million mt. The US was followed by Canada with 164,997 mt of coking coal exports to Turkey in the given period.
