Turkey’s chrome ore exports up 20 percent in Jan-Feb

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in February this year Turkey's chrome ore exports amounted to 164,105 metric tons, falling 21.8 percent compared to January and up 13.7 percent compared to the same month of 2012. Meanwhile, in February the revenue generated by Turkey's chrome ore exports totaled $32.7 million, decreasing 22.1 percent month on month and up 11.3 percent on year-on-year basis.

Turkey's largest and almost only export destination for chrome ore in February this year was China, which received 97 percent of the country's total chrome ore exports, amounting to 159,245 mt, down 23.5 percent from January and up 15.7 percent year on year. Belgium followed China in February, importing 3,882 mt of chrome ore from Turkey, almost triple month on month and quadruple compared to February 2012.

In the first two months of 2013, Turkey's chrome ore exports increased by 20 percent to 374,043 metric tons, while the revenue for these exports amounted to $75.5 million, up 22 percent, both compared to the first two months of 2012.

On the other hand, Turkey's manganese ore exports in February this year totaled 35,225 mt, rising 70.7 percent over January, while the country's nickel ore exports rose to 19,500 mt, double compared to the previous month. In the first two months, Turkey exported 55,781 mt of manganese ore, increasing significantly compared to the same period last year, while Turkey's nickel ore exports in the first two months fell 17.6 percent year on year to 29,250 mt.
