Turkey’s billet imports down 52.5 percent in January-August

In August this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume decreased by 47.8 percent year on year to 171,819 mt, down 26 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $78 million, down 30.7 percent year on year and decreasing by 36 percent compared to the previous month.

In the first eight months of the current year, Turkey's billet import volume amounted to 1.6 million mt, falling by 52.5 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 36.8 percent to $676.6 million, both year on year.
 
In the given period, Turkey imported 619,779 mt of billet and bloom from Ukraine, down 37.26 percent year on year, with Ukraine ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 465,910 mt in the given period.
