Turkey’s billet imports down 35.4 percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 21.7 percent month on month to 106,806 mt, down by 40.7 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $62.5 million, up 19.2 percent month on month and down 18.9 percent year on year.

In the January-May period of the current year, Turkey's billet import volume amounted to 615,386 mt, falling by 35.4 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 12.22 percent to $346.4 million, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 254,291 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, down 23.60 percent year on year, with Russia ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of Ukraine which supplied 196,932 mt in the given period.
