Turkey-based Atakas Group announced that it has started investment in a cold rolled steel production facility in the Mediterranean Turkish city of Iskenderun, which will have an annual output capacity of 1.2 million mt. Within the scope of the investment, the company will install surface cleaning, cold rolling, galvanizing and color coating lines to be supplied by the Italian plantmaker Danieli. Assembly of the lines is scheduled to start in mid-2015.

According to Atakas, 30 percent of the construction of the new plant is completed and the plant will produce high quality cold rolled, galvanized and color coated sheet. The company plans to commission the plant which will supply products to both the domestic and export markets by the end of 2015.

Atakas stated that its close proximity to Turkish-based steelmaker Isdemir will make a significant contribution to the investment in terms of raw material supplies and also to the country's economy since it will help reduce Turkey's current account deficit.
