Ahead of the meeting between the White House and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on Wednesday, July 25, US President Donald Trump said that the US and EU should eliminate all tariffs, barriers and subsidies.

“I have an idea for them. Both the US and the EU drop all Tariffs, Barriers and Subsidies! That would finally be called Free Market and Fair Trade! Hope they do it, we are ready - but they won’t!” Trump tweeted.

“We are here to explain and find out how to prevent a trade war,” Juncker told German television broadcaster ZDF before the meeting, adding that the EU is ready to retaliate “immediately” if the talks fail, according to Bloomberg.
