Algerian steel producer Tosyali Algerie, which has been aiming to expand its longs exports step by step, remains active in the steel markets of North America. The company shipped 18,000 mt of steel rebar to Canada on May 8, while the deal was sealed sometime in March. Moreover, by the end of May Tosyali Algerie is planning to ship 10,000 mt of rebar to the US, SteelOrbis has learned. “Algeria is a clean supplier for the US: no antidumping, no trade case history, nothing. Only 25 percent safeguard is valid as for everyone else,” a trader said.
While maintaining its sales to the US and Canada, Tosyali Algerie has been actively working on establishing trade routes in the European markets. As reported earlier, some lots had already been supplied to the UK and Belgium. Moreover, Algeria, which is using the others’ quota for the EU, may receive some additional advantage if the European authorities choose to cut the assigned quotas for key supplying countries, such as Turkey.
