On January 14 German group ThyssenKrupp announced that Agozal DoubleDip® twice-galvanized steel coil from ThyssenKrupp Steel has been approved as a material for application in highway crash barriers.
According to the announcement, it is now official that crash barrier beams made of Agozal DoubleDip® fit the purpose just as well as batch-galvanized barriers, after five years of trials by the German Federal Highway Research Institute and further investigations by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing.
Agozal DoubleDip® offers at least the same degree of corrosion resistance as batch-galvanized barriers while at the same time being more cost-effective. Meanwhile, the material is also suitable for motorcycle underrun protection beams.
The twice-galvanized steel coil product is produced at the Neuwied plant of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, where Germany's biggest steelmaker operates a unique hot dip galvanizing line in which steel can be passed optionally through one or two zinc baths.
