German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel has announced that by upgrading its decarburizing line, the company was able to increase its annual production capacity for grain-oriented electrical steel to 260,000 metric tons. The company is using the additional capacity to increase its range of higher value-added products and to increase the share of premium grades in its total production to over 50 percent in the medium term. The new equipment which the company has bought to upgrade an existing decarburizing line is the core element of ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel's strategy to increase output of its higher value-added products. The upgrade has enhanced the possibility for producing premium grades of steel, which take longer to decarburize than standard products. Mr. Clemer Iller, executive board chairman of ThyssenKrupp Electrical Steel, stated that the company will be primarily focused on the production of higher value-added products.
