According to Thailand’s trade statistics, Thailand imported 1.07 million mt of billet in H1 2017. The figure increased by 4.7 percent to 1.12 million mt of billet imports in H1 2018.

Compared to 2016 figures, H1 2017 declined 59.3 percent and H1 2018 declined 57.4 percent. While Thailand is a growing economy, the decline is attributed to expanded steel capacity in the country.

Despite the increase in billet imports for the respective six-month periods year-on-year, the June 2018 import figure also demonstrates a 4-month decline in billet imports since the high in February 2018.
