Italian engineering group Tenova has announced that it will supply two new electric arc furnaces (EAFs) with a Consteel continuous charging system for Chinese steelmaker Shandong Laigang Yongfeng Steel’s melt shop plant in Dezhou City, Shandong Province.
Tenova stated that environmental regulations recently introduced in China aimed at reducing pollution and CO2 emissions have motivated Chinese steelmakers to use a different manufacturing approach, with some converting their steel plants to EAF technology, increasing the share of electrical steelmaking in comparison to blast furnace (BF) or basic oxygen furnace (BOF) steelmaking. Tenova added that its Consteel system provides operational reliability as well as advantages such as savings in electrical consumption, improved productivity, high-quality steel, and greater environmental protection and workplace safety.
