Tenaris Confab, a Brazilian subsidiary of pipe producer Tenaris, will furlough 200 workers out of a 500 workforce on two separate dates, local union Sindmetp said.

In Brazil, companies can grant “collective vacations,” which are paid and discounted from a worker’s 30-day annual vacation period, as a way to adjust production levels.

The measure to anticipate vacations for the Tenaris Confab employees was accepted by local union Sindmetp, which joined discussions with the company. The union said the first group was furloughed on March 26, and the second went home on Monday. They’re all part of the 200 people that will get paid vacations. The union said the measure can be further extended.

Tenaris Confab is a welded pipe manufacturing facility located in the city of Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, with a capacity of 500,000 mt/year. According to Tenaris, the Tenaris Confab Pindamonhangaba mill includes an ERW rolling mill and a SAW rolling mill with one spiral line and one longitudinal line. The facility also supplies anticorrosion pipe coating made of extruded polyethylene or polypropylene, external and internal fusion bonded epoxy and paint for internal pipe coating.
