In July this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 30 percent to 1.1 million mt, while the value of these imports moved down by eight percent to $1.1 billion, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of July, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 43 percent to 280,000 mt, while its flat steel imports fell by 28 percent to 638,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In July, total long steel product imports were down by 13 percent to 136,000 mt, year on year.
In July, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 139.4 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 83 percent in the same month of 2017.
In the first seven months of this year, the country’s steel imports increased by seven percent to 9.8 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 25 percent to $8.4 billion, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-July period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 23 percent to 3.4 million mt, while its flat steel imports declined by one percent to 4.9 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 895,000 mt, rising by 7.5 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 114 percent of its steel import volume, remaining stable compared to the same period of 2017.
