In May this year, Turkey’s steel imports increased by 51 percent to 1.8 million mt, while the value of these imports moved up by 51.3 percent to $1.5 billion, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the month of May, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports increased by 101.7 percent to 654,000 mt, while its flat steel imports rose by 35.1 percent to 916,700 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In May, total long steel product imports were up by 38 percent to 137,000 mt, year on year.
In May, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 95 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 120 percent in the same month of 2017.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s steel imports increased by 18 percent to 7.5 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 35 percent to $6.2 billion, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-May period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 39.3 percent to 2.7 million mt, while its flat steel imports increased by eight percent to 3.7 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 645,000 mt, rising by 15.6 percent year on year.
In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 109 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 122 percent in the same period of 2017.
