TCUD: Turkey’s steel import volume up 0.8 percent in January-September

In September this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 18.3 percent to 1.3 million mt, while the value of these imports moved down by 3.6 percent to $1.1 billion, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the month of September, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 0.3 percent to 403,000 mt, while its flat steel imports fell by 26 percent to 690,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In September, total long steel product imports were down by 24 percent to 87,000 mt, year on year.

In September, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 145 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 79 percent in the same month of 2017.

In the first nine months of this year, the country’s steel imports increased by 0.8 percent to 12 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 17.6 percent to $10.3 billion, both on year-on-year basis.

In the January-September period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by 18.5 percent to 4 million mt, while its flat steel imports declined by 7.7 percent to 6.2 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 1.1 million mt, rising by 1.2 percent year on year.

In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 121 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 109 percent in the same period of 2017.
