TCUD: Turkey’s steel import volume down 5.2 percent in January-October

In October this year, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 48 percent to 867,106 mt, while the value of these imports moved down by 30 percent to $896.6 million, both year on year, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the month of October, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports decreased by 72.4 percent to 150,000 mt, while its flat steel imports fell by 36 percent to 554,000 mt, both compared to the same month of the previous year. In October, total long steel product imports were down by 40 percent to 84,000 mt, year on year.

In October, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 193 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 89 percent in the same month of 2017.

In the first ten months of this year, the country’s steel imports decreased by 5.2 percent to 13 million mt and the value of these imports went up by 11.5 percent to $11.2 billion, both on year-on-year basis.

In the January-October period of this year, Turkey’s semi-finished imports rose by six percent to 4.2 million mt, while its flat steel imports declined by 11 percent to 6.7 million mt, both year on year. In the same period, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 1.2 million mt, falling by 3.6 percent year on year.

In the given period, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 126 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 106 percent in the same period of 2017.
