TCUD: Turkey’s scrap import volume rises by 12.8 percent in Jan-Aug

In the January-August period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume rose by 12.8 percent on year-on-year basis to 14.6 million metric tons, while these imports were valued at $5.1 billion with a 44.2 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the first eight months of this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 9.3 percent to 9 million mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 26 percent to 2.5 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 1.9 million mt, up 22.1 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 61.2 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 17.3 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 13 percent.
