TCUD: Turkey’s scrap import volume rises by 11.3 percent in January-May

In the January-May period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 11.3 percent on year-on-year basis to nine million metric tons, while these imports were valued at $3.1 billion with a 42.7 percent increase in the given period compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the January-May period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 0.8 percent to 5.2 million mt, its scrap imports from the US rose by 23.6 percent to 1.7 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 1.1 million mt, up 52.4 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 60 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 19 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 12 percent.
