In the financial year 2018-19, Indian steelmaker Tata Steel produced 16.79 million mt of crude steel, up by 34.5 percent year on year, while the company’s finished steel sales increased by 33.9 percent to 16.27 million mt compared to the previous financial year.
Meanwhile, in the given period, Tata Steel’s crude steel production at its European facilities decreased by 3.6 percent to 10.3 million mt and finished steel sales totaled 9.61 million mt, down 3.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Tata Steel stated that blast furnace 5 at Port Talbot, UK, which was under shut down under a life-extension program as of September 2018, resumed operations in January 2019.
In addition, in the full financial year, Tata Steel’s finished steel output at its Southeast Asian facilities declined by 6.7 percent to 2.08 million mt, while its finished steel sales at the Southeast Asian facilities decreased by four percent to 2.41 million mt, both compared to the previous year.
