Indian steel giant Tata Steel (Tata) has received a prospecting license from India's Ministry of Mines for an iron ore mine located in Maharashtra. The total area granted by the government on December 22, 2008, amounts to 131.1 hectare.

According to the license, after finishing the prospecting and outlining the estimated reserves, Tata Steel will have to apply to the ministry for mining lease.

In May 2008, Tata Steel has received a PL for an iron ore mine in Jharkhand, which currently supplies 100 percent of its iron ore requirement from Jharkhand mines.
