Tangshan to eliminate 7.81 million mt of iron and steel capacity by end of November

Tangshan city, Hebei Province, the largest steel producing base in China aims to eliminate 7.81 million mt of iron and steel capacity, including 2.81 million mt of pig iron capacity and 5.0 million mt of steelmaking capacity by the end of November this year, as announced by Tangshan municipal government.

In particular, most of capacity elimination this year will come from Fengnan district that has 10 steel mills with 26.0 million mt of production capacity, which is also the important production base of steel strip in China. The district will eliminate 2.28 million mt of pig iron capacity and 2.28 million mt of steelmaking capacity, accounting for 81.1 percent and 45.6 percent of Tangshan city’s overall target.

Tangshan city-based steelmaker Tangshan Guofeng will play an important role in eliminating capacity, which aims to eliminate 1.56 million mt of pig iron capacity and 2.0 million of steelmaking capacity. Currently, the demolition crew has begun preparations for taking down three 450 cubic meters blast furnaces, two 50 mt converters and one 40 mt converter at the mill.
