Talvivaara Mining’s nickel output up 26 percent in Q3 over Q2

Finland-based nickel and zinc miner Talvivaara Mining Company Plc announced on October 15 that in the third quarter this year its nickel production increased 26.2 percent compared to the previous quarter, amounting to 4,030 mt. The company said that its nickel production in the first nine months of the year amounted to 10,598 mt.

Talvivaara said that continued historically heavy rainfall throughout the third quarter has prolonged water balance issues at its Sotkamo mine in eastern Finland.

The company anticipates its nickel production in the fourth quarter of this year to improve over the level attained in the third quarter. However, due to the challenging water balance situation, Talvivaara considers it unlikely that its full year 2012 production target of approximately 17,000 mt of nickel will be achieved.
