Total imports of ferrous scrap in Taiwan increased by 14 percent year on year to 1.24 million mt in the first four months of this year, according to official customs statistics.

Japan continued to be the main scrap supplier for Taiwan, exporting 393,538 mt of scrap in the given period, up 132.28 percent year on year. The increase was attributed to reduced domestic demand in Japan, as well as lower demand from Japan’s traditional outlets such as South Korea

Meanwhile, scrap exports from the US to Taiwan totaled 561,389 mt in the January-April period, up 3.2 percent year on year.

In April alone, Taiwan’s scrap imports totaled 293,563 mt, down 8.74 percent year on year and down 10.25 percent from March.
