Taiwan's seasonally adjusted industrial production index recorded a year-on-year increase of 31.25 percent in November this year, according to Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs, representing the highest year-on-year growth since August 1978, an increase that the ministry attributed to the low base last year and to the recovery of the global economy. Meanwhile, the index surged 6.54 percent compared to October. November was the third month in a row in which the index increased on a month-on-month basis.

On the other hand, in the month in question, the industrial production index for the basic metal industry in Taiwan rose 33.56 percent compared to November 2008 but was down 4.33 percent over the previous month, while the industrial production index for fabricated metal products increased 14.36 percent year on year and was up 1.92 percent month on month.
