Shanxi Province-based Chinese steelmaker Taigang Group has announced that it has started construction work on its high-end cold rolled (CR) oriented silicon steel project.

The project in question is planned to have an overall investment of RMB 2.58 billion ($0.37 billion) and involves the construction of a low temperature high magnetic induction oriented silicon steel production line with an annual capacity of 160,000 mt. The project will be constructed in two phases, while the first phase will be put into operation by the end of 2020.

As a high value-added steel product, high-end cold rolled oriented silicon steel is mainly used to make transformers and large generator cores. It is one of the most important functional materials in the development of the power industry.
