Australian miner Sundance Resources has announced that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the West African iron ore developer Core Mining Limited (Core) regarding an infrastructure partnership for Sundance's Mbalam/Nabeba iron ore project in the Sangha region in the Republic of Congo.

According to Sundance's statement, the definitive feasibility study on Sundance's Mbalam/Nabeba project was completed in March 2011. The project is designed to produce 35 million mt of direct shipping ore (DSO) per year for approximately 10 years.

Sundance stated that, once the high quality iron ore assets are in production, there is potential to produce up to 70 million mt of DSO per year, while the long-term potential of the region is believed to be 100 million mt per year. Sundance added that heavy haulage infrastructure is required for the export of iron ore.
