The world's largest independent steel trader Stemcor has announced that it has acquired UK steel stockholder Barclay & Mathieson Limited (B&M). B&M is Stemcor's second acquisition of a steel stockholding business after last year's purchase of Steel Plate & Sections.

Stemcor executive chairman Ralph Oppenheimer said that B&M is a stockholder with a 130-year history in the UK market and this business will develop Stemcor's growing distribution and stockholding business.

B&M offers processing services, general fabrication work and structural steelwork. The company has 12 depots concentrated in the Midlands, Northern England and Scotland.
