Stelco starts Maintenance Excellence Project

Legally insolvent Canadian steelmaker Stelco Inc. is getting an edge on the competition by awarding a contract to Fluor Corporation’s Canadian subsidiary for their productivity and maintenance improvement consulting services. Fluor has been guiding the development of Stelco’s executive management and operations teams since 2004. Now, Stelco is in the early stages of implementing the changes identified in the Maintenance Excellence Project outline. Colin Osborne, Stelco's executive vice president and CEO calls the project “a cornerstone in Stelco's improving competitiveness.” Stelco Inc. is Canada’s largest steel producer, with annual steelmaking capacity of 5.9 million tons. California-based Fluor Corporation provides services in the fields of engineering, procurement, construction, and project management. Its revenues in 2004 totaled $9.4 billion.
