Steel products exports surge at Zhanjiagang Port

Zhanjiagang port began expanding exports of steel products in the second half of 2004. In September 2004 the monthly steel products exports at Zhanjiagang exceeded 100 thousand tons; however, the export quantity gradually dwindled through the remainder of 2004. The first two months of 2005 saw new life breathed into Zhanjiagang as exports of steel products picked up greatly after the Lunar New Year holiday. The total export quantity through the first two months of 2005 reached 305’000 tons at US$150 million in trade value. These numbers bested the previous year’s totals by 37.5% and 39.4% respectively.
