Steel product imports steady at Alashankou port

Steel products import quantity at Alashankou port of China totaled 395'400 tons from January-April 2005, with $248 million trade value, up 0.7% and 59% respectively year on year. After international iron ore price soared in March 2005, China steel products import price has also been pushed up, leading to expanding operation cost as well as dwindling profit, and steel products import situation has posed sharp contrast to that of January-February 2005 period. If the Chinese government does not issue any new macro-control policy, it is forecasted that steel products import quantity at Alashankou port will keep at 50-60 thousand tons in the future few months.
